How to add suppliers to an existing quote request or request for proposal (RFP)

Centralize the bidding process for your project by adding suppliers to your existing quote request

When you are running an RFP or quote request on Lumi, you may want to add additional suppliers to the bidding process. These can include suppliers already on Lumi, and new suppliers you are looking to invite to collaborate on Lumi.

Understanding open vs. direct requests

When you create a quote request, you can choose to send a direct request to specific suppliers, or an open request to all relevant suppliers, or both.

  • Open requests are sent to all relevant suppliers that have the necessary capabilities to produce your item(s). Suppliers are free to pick opportunities that they might be a good fit for.
  • Direct requests notify the specific supplier(s) you choose. Direct requests are more likely to receive responses because the supplier will know you are looking to receive a quote from them specifically. When you initiate a direct request, you can also begin messaging immediately with the supplier and send them additional information.

How to add a supplier to an existing quote request

  1. Go to the Quoting view in your Lumi account
  2. Choose a quote request
  3. At the top of the Suppliers list on the left side click the blue + Add button
  4. Choose one or more suppliers from the list to send additional direct request(s)

When you do this, new notifications will be sent to those suppliers, and your quote request will appear in their Direct requests list. You can begin messaging with them immediately.

How to choose specific suppliers

You can use the Supplier Directory to explore suppliers that might be a good fit to add to your quote request. Use the filters to narrow down suppliers by country, state, products and certifications. You can explore their profile page to learn more about each supplier.

Adding a supplier that is not in the list

You can invite suppliers that are not yet on Lumi to participate in the quoting process. Follow our guide on inviting suppliers. The Lumi team is here to help you onboard the supplier, so that your RFP is centralized on the platform.
