Creating QR codes

Lumi ID makes it easy to create QR codes for your packaging and products to enable smarter post-purchase workflows.

Create a QR code

  1. To create a QR code go to your Lumi ID view and click the Add new Lumi ID button
  2. Click Download SVG to get the vector QR code file that you can use in your dielines. See our printing guidelines for suggestions on sizing and contrast.
  3. Select one or more Items from the list of Items. You can do this at any time after the QR code is created. Items are the physical components that will be printed or linked to the QR code.

Customize your landing page and post-purchase flows

Lumi ID allows you to customize the appearance of your landing pages and manage which post-purchase flows are available to your customers including Recycle, Return, Reorder, Report, Contact support, and more.

Unique vs non-unique QR codes

Lumi ID is designed to be flexible and accommodate many use cases. QR codes and Items have a many-to-many relationship. One QR code can be linked to many Items, and one Item can be linked to multiple QR codes.

When you create a QR code in Lumi, you can choose to link it to one or more Items. Using the same QR code for multiple Items can be useful in certain cases, but we typically recommend using unique QR codes for each SKU or item.

Using a unique QR code for each Item

Benefits:

  • Enables product-specific analytics for each QR code, while also allowing aggregate numbers across all QR codes
  • Enables product-specific Reorder and Return flows, that result in a smoother user experience and higher conversion rates
  • Enables internal use of the QR code for inventory tracking
  • Enables use of the QR code in retail use cases, e.g. where pricing is tied to a specific SKU

Use cases

  • Your product SKU and packaging SKU are one and the same
  • You are printing QR codes on collateral for marketing purposes and want to track campaign-level data
  • You want to keep track of all your items separately

Using the same QR code for several Items

Benefits:

  • Simpler to manage

Use cases:

  • Your business has very few product SKUs and you don't mind mixing data across SKUs
  • You only want to track product SKUs, not packaging components. In this case you may choose to use only one QR code to represent the entire assembly including all sub-components. You can also use one QR code on the product SKU for consumer use, and unique QR codes for each packaging component for your own inventory purposes
